An extremely scarce and very pretty PUT-U-UP studio couch by Greaves and Thomas of Bond St, London c.1964 that features two drop ends that quickly convert the sofa into an occasional single bed – perfect for that unscheduled sleep over. Wonderful styling with solid sculptured afrormosia arm tops gently tapered legs and elegant wooden frame to the rear. G&T pioneered the sofa bed or put-u-up concept in the UK in the 1950’s and produced some fantastic and highly collectable sofas and chairs that are always extremely well made.
This piece will look stunning when restored and newly upholstered. All wooden areas – arm tops, legs and back are totally original and have been thoroughly cleaned and oil finished and present beautifully with only the odd tiny mark – lovely rich grain and colour. The original metal framed sprung base is also in near perfect condition. Priced for sale inclusive of all new foam, labour and selected 100% British wool finish – please contact us to discuss.
The piece could be used as is, though the fabric does have some areas of fading and a few small holes as you’d expect and I would therefore consider selling as is, please contact us to discuss. An incredibly pretty and wonderfully proportioned piece perfect for where space is at a premium.
