‘Guiting’ sideboard by Trevor Chinn for Gordon Russell c.1960

Product Description

A fantastic and rarely seen ‘Guiting’ range sideboard designed by Trevor Chinn for Gordon Russell c.1960.  A wonderful design featuring a very unusual mix of materials – the top, cupboard doors and sides are veneered in what we think is a quarter cut Olive wood with a distinct straight grain of vibrant yellow/orange browns with darker streaks.  The four spacious drawers are beautifully constructed from solid timber and faced with a richly figured and coloured solid fiddleback mahogany.  The elegant tapering legs are solid Ash as are the circular backplates which contrast wonderfully with the stylish ‘birmabright’ metal handles.  The overall design, contrast of materials and attention to detail is just fabulous and typical of high-end British furniture of this period before the dominance of  Scandinavian styling.  We’ve only ever seen this design in walnut and ash (as seen in the original Gordon Russell advert) so its possible that this was either a special order piece or for display / exhibition – we absolutely love it!  Probably unique and in wonderful fully restored condition with just the odd small ding only seen on very close inspection – this really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
