Robin Day for Hille walnut sideboard and display cabinet c.1954

Category: .

Product Description

A wonderful combination of sideboard and cabinet / bookcase designed by Robin Day for Hille in the 1950’s.  These 2 units have been together from new and are being sold as a pair. This Unit L and Y combination are finished in a richly figured and coloured walnut veneer, the sideboard is finished with a pair of sliding ebonised doors with the recessed handles featuring back plates in aluminium that open to reveal a mahogany lined interior with two adjustable / removable solid mahogany shelves – the piece sits on its original black enamelled steel legs.  The upper cabinet is veneered inside and out in walnut and includes two adjustable / removable solid walnut shelves and is complete with its original glass sliding doors. Wonderful restored condition with the odd ding, historic wear and veneer nibble but the rich colour and figuring of the walnut veneer is very forgiving – all exterior surfaces have been stripped and newly lacquered and are now ready for several more decades of use – the piece presents beautifully the pics really don’t do it justice.

Sideboard – 137.5cm length x 45.5cm depth x 70.5cm height

Bookcase / display cabinet – 137.5cm length x 30cm depth x 51cm height

Total height of the combined unit is 121.5cm (4ft) high.
